Jewelry Appraisal
*Please note: We do not do appraisals on newly purchased items from other stores. Your receipt will be sufficient in obtaining insurance.
Appraisals are usually done same day or next day. We can not do appraisals while you wait.
The fee for an appraisal starts at $100.00 for the first piece and $85.00 for each additional. The price may vary depending on the complexity of the item.
An appraisal is a legal document which includes a written description of an item, a detailed report of the material, design, identification and quality of the gemstones. This report also includes an estimated value of the item. The value will depend on what type of appraisal is written.
An Insurance Appraisal is a document that states the maximum value an item has or could have, and would detail the type, quality, and style of gemstones, diamonds, and the metal components combined. This document will allow you to obtain insurance and communicates the replacement value (how much it would cost to pay someone to recreate the item). Insurance values are higher than retail (sale) values.
An estate or inheritance appraisal is a cash value of an item, based on what a willing buyer and a willing seller would agree to without a forced sale. An estate appraisal is based on the premise that the collection is to be dispersed or liquidated . Since it does not take into consideration selling costs, age, or current prices for labor or creative design, this type of appraisal is normally lower than appraisals for replacement cost.
A liquidation appraisal is a cash value of an item, based on selling the item at a forced sale at that moment in time, which is generally the lowest cost figure.
A verbal appraisal is a rough estimate of an item. We can quickly determine if an item is real or fake and calculate estimated weights and measures. This may help the client determine if the item is worth paying for an official insurance document, or if the item is salable.
Both of our appraisers are GIA educated and trained in the identification and quality analysis necessary to perform an accurate report. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is the preeminent non-profit educational organization in the United States. As well, we are an IJO Accredited Gem Lab.
We have the knowledge, experience, and training to correctly identify gemstones, diamonds, as well as manufacturing techniques, jewelry styles, ages, treatments, and previous repairs. All of these factors together create the value of your item.
